Make your weak subjects become strong and your strong subjects … Mason

(Mason Rayshaud Williams, New Grounds Primary School)

When Mason Rayshaud Williams, a student of the New Grounds Primary School, learnt about his results in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment(CPEA) examinations, his initial reaction was, “Oh no. I wasn’t the top performer, but I came fifth, so that’s okay. That’s still good.”

His sister, Monique Williams, told SEARCHLIGHT that Mason’s reaction speaks to his competitiveness. However, Monique said she was overwhelmed with his results and the rest of the family was so excited that some of them even shed tears.

Mason, shared that he was not a strong student in all the subject areas, but discovered that he is good with numbers. Therefore, he used his Mathematics skills to help in his weak areas like Social Studies.

“There’s a lot of dates in Social Studies that’s related to numbers, so sometimes I can memorise them easily just like that.”

Mason said that while upcoming CPEA students should study to become generalists in their various subject areas, they should also aim towards being a “specialist” in at least one of them.

“Make your weak subjects become strong and your strong subjects become stronger” he said, adding that while students should focus to achieve 100 per cent in their strong subjects, they should still raise their levels in their weaker areas.
