Hard work pays off for Korey

While Kenroy has been away providing for his family as a seaman, his wife Venola, who works as a paediatric nurse, has been holding down the fort with their son Korey Lavia.

This year, both parents reaped the fruits of their sacrifices when Korey became one of SVG’s fifth best performers in the CPEA examinations.
Venola told SEARCHLIGHT that she knew Korey had the potential to do well, so she ensured that he reviewed his notes, practiced some past papers, and attended after school classes.

“If you had come to her home while he was studying, you’ll think, maybe it was like a classroom,” Kenroy said, adding that Korey’s school notes were stuck “all over” the house walls, including in the kitchen and bedrooms.

Kenroy advised parents to mark their children’s exam papers during preparation and note the questions that they got wrong and did not understand.

“Be there for your children, from Kindergarten right up to Grade 6,” Venola said. Kenroy, who agreed with his wife, pointed out that Grade 6 is the shortest term in the students’ primary school careers, therefore, parents should not wait until then to work alongside their children.
