Rotary Club to spotlight childhood obesity at Glow Run
The Rotary Club in collaboration with the Island Wide Fitness Boot Camp will be hosting a glow run on Saturday, June 4, 2025, to shine the light on the “very silent, quiet epidemic” of childhood obesity.
President of the Rotary Club of St Vincent, Dawnette Constance, told SEARCHLIGHT that St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is getting on the bandwagon with the rest of the Caribbean to spread the news about eating healthy, exercising, and preventative measures against childhood obesity.
Outlining that one of the Rotary’s main focuses is disease prevention, Constance said that childhood obesity “is actually a very quiet, silent epidemic” that most people ignore.
Therefore, the club will be hosting its first fundraiser on the issue with a health fair at the Cruise Ship Terminal at 4:00 p.m , and a glow run from 6:00 p.m, which is being sponsored by Edwin D. Layne & Sons Limited. Constance said that patrons will begin the glow run at the Cruise Ship Terminal, and the route will take them along Bay Street to the Central Police Station, up Town Hill, through Cane Garden to the Sion Hill Bus Stop, then to the Tarmac of the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport, where a work out session will be conducted.
After the session, patrons will journey back to the Cruise Ship Terminal via Sion Hill and Sally Spring.
Nutritionists and exercise machines will be available at the Health Fair.
