A 45 year old man with 33 convictions has told a Senior Magistrate that he does not want his foreign-based father to see him in prison when he returns to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Javed Clarke, who cried to be sent to prison when he was told he had to wait one day before his sentencing, was sent to jail for just over a year. Clarke appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, before Senior Magistrate ,Tammika McKenzie on June, 2,2025, where he pleaded guilty that on May, 29, 2025 in Kingstown he stole one black plastic bag valued EC$1.00 containing 16 corner braces valued EC$25.00; a half-pound of half inch screws valued EC$10.70; two Ingco screwdriver bits valued EC$50.00; 10 matured grafted mangoes valued EC$10.00; and EC$30.00 in cash, a total value EC$126.70, the property of Leslie Jack of Richmond Hill.

The facts presented in court by PC 196 Constantine are that on the date in question at about 9:00 a.m, Jack was going to his friend’s restaurant and bar on Higginson Street, Kingstown.

Jack had the black plastic bag in his hand containing the listed items. While walking, a man, who was later identified to be Clarke, came from behind him and grabbed his bag and ran.

Another man who was in the area shouted out, “Boy, Javed, leave the man.”

Jack reported the matter to the police where PC 871 Lewis entertained his report.

PC Lewis and a party of Criminal Investigation Department(CID) personnel were dispatched on duty in search of Clarke. They met him in Paul’s Avenue.

PC Lewis identified herself to him and informed him of the report. When he was searched, a transparent plastic bag containing 16 corner braces and a half-pound of half-inch screws were found on him.
