Fraser Confident he could unseat ‘Major’ in Central Kingstown

A love for people and a mission to improve the socio-economic condition in Central Kingstown by focusing on youth development is what has spurred Paul’s Avenue resident, Marvin “Mega” Fraser to become involved in representation politics.

Fraser is the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) candidate for Central Kingstown, and will go up against long time representative, St Clair “Major” Leacock of the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the upcoming general election due this year.

Fraser, a former president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation told SEARCHLIGHT, that growing up, he has always been interested in serving people and has served his community.

“…serving my community and being involved in football administration, these things have basically prepared me for service on a greater scale and so my compassion and love for people and assisting, helping and serving people is what motivated me to get involved as there is a need for a different direction in the way we engage on community development, especially in Central Kingstown.”

He said Central Kingstown is in need of a proper representative and someone who loves people, is compassionate and willing to serve.

“…and that is also what motivated me to serve on this political level,” the current facilities manager at the National Sports Council (NSC) said.

He thinks he as a great chance at wresting the Central Kingstown seat from Leacock, who first won the seat in the December, 2010 general election and has represented the constituency in Parliament since then.

“I have a good chance of winning the seat mainly because persons have always known me to be someone who is straight forward and willing to serve them and so they know that they can count on me,” Fraser said on Wednesday, May 28.

“I have always been someone who the people could count on and the youths and their parents have always been able to communicate and socialize with me and they understand where I come from…”, added Fraser whose constituency office was recently opened.
