World Paediatric Scoliosis Team perform services at MCMH
Some 58 children with scoliosis and other spinal conditions were evaluated on Sunday, May 11,2025 at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) and 10 were identified to undergo corrective surgery which took place between May 12 to May 15, 2025.
The children were drawn from St. Vincent and the Grenadines and other islands of the Eastern Caribbean, and were evaluated by a visiting World Paediatrics Scoliosis team that was led by Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Matthew Cage.
Joining Dr Cage on this trip were Dr Yashar Javidan, Paediatric Orthopaedic Co-Surgeon; Dr Ashley Soppe, Anaesthesiology; Lauro Moncada, Neuro-monitoring Specialist; Caitlin Biven, Surgical Technician; Chelsea Brice, Recovery/OR Nurse; Emma Bartholomew, CRNA; and Neil Ross, Globus Instrument Representative. The team was also supported by Miranda Davis, World Paediatrics (WP) Caribbean Programme Coordinator, and Romi Newman, WP Director of Marketing & Communications, a WP release states. Local Paediatric General Surgeon, Dr Jasmine Davy-Ellis and nurses from the MCMH provided vital assistance.
“This type of care is difficult and expensive to access independently within our region, so it is a privilege to work alongside the visiting teams to help bridge the gap and get the families the help they need.” Dr. Davy-Ellis is quoted in the release as stating.
World Paediatrics, the medical team and volunteers have extended appreciation to Globus Medical and the NuVasive Spine Foundation for sponsoring this trip and continuously supporting their aim to heal the children of the Caribbean.
