Work on Grimble Hall and Thomas Saunders Secondary set to begin soon
WORK IS EXPECTED to begin soon on the construction of a new Grimble Hall at the Girls’ High School building, and renovations at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, both based in capital, Kingstown.
Assurance of this was given in Parliament on Monday, April 18, 2025 by Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Camillo Gonsalves as he responded to a question posed by Opposition Member of Parliament for East Kingstown, Fitzgerald Bramble.
Bramble asked what was the reason for the delay in completing the renovations to the GHS and the Thomas Saunders Secondary School which have been closed for almost five years now, with the population of both schools being relocated to temporary facilities at the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport Tarmac.
The relocation was done to make way for repair work to take place at both schools.
As it relates to the GHS, Minister Gonsalves explained that the dilapidated condition of Grimble Hall is somewhat responsible for the delayed renovation work. He said the original contract for the GHS project included the extension of Grimble Hall and the refurbishment of the Norma Keizer Building. However, it was later determined that the proposed extension of Grimble Hall was not feasible, as the masonry and woodwork in the century old building was severely compromised.
