Man killed in hail of gunfire in Paul Over

Residents of Paul Over were startled by gunfire on Tuesday night June 18, 2024, but only realized that the rounds had a target when they awoke the following morning, June 19.

The target was 34-year-old Dwayne “Doc” Jacobs. His body was discovered on Wednesday morning under a breadfruit tree next to a house he had been renting for about a year.

The area in Paul Over where Dwayne “Doc” Jacobs was living.

On Wednesday, a resident of the area told SEARCHLIGHT that when he heard the gunshots, he closed his windows and doors and remained inside, and it was only around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, that he realized his neighbour had been shot and killed.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the man said Jacobs was a quiet person who would greet you when passing, and was not known for making trouble in the area.

“The gunshots were frightening when we heard them. These things don’t really happen in this area,” the man said, while noting that although Paul Over is close to Murray’ Village, they are two different areas. Only days before, on June 16, 2024, Zeno “Sarge” Lee was shot dead in Murray’s Village at a bar and two other men were injured.

Jacobs, who a police source said was shot several times, is known to law enforcement and the media. He has a chequered past and was incarcerated at various times since 2005. That year, he was jailed for burglary and theft.

In 2009, he was jailed for stealing a bottle of Hennessey and a bottle of Courvoisier from Coreas valued at $198.

Then Senior Magistrate, Donald Browne had given a one month sentence to Jacobs who at the time was 19, and residing in Lowmans Hill.

In 2010 at the Criminal Assizes, Jacobs received a five year custodial sentence for burglary.

Then in February 2021, he was on a police wanted post in connection with a series of burglaries.

Dwayne is the brother of Chad Jacobs of Lowmans Leeward, who currently is serving a 10 year prison sentence for robbery, and an eight year sentence for firearm possession for his joint role in the Russell Cineplex robbery that took place on July 28, 2013, in Stoney Ground.

Police are investigating Jacobs’s death, the 21st violent death for 2024, and the third homicide in three days.

It follows on the heels of the killing of Gary “Wallup” Glasgow, a watchman who was discovered with his throat slashed on the compound of the School for Children with Special Needs, Fernside, on Tuesday morning June 18, 2024, and the shooting death of Lee last Sunday.
