Eight to vie for Miss Division of Nursing Education title on May 11

Eight students of the Division of Nursing Education of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, will be talking to the stage come Saturday May 11, 2024 at the Villa Campus in the first ever Miss Division of Nursing Education pageant, or Miss DNE for short.

In an exclusive interview with Shande Danzine, a fourth year nursing student at the Division of Nursing Education of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College and a member of the organizing committee, told Searchlight that “We have eight contestants vying for the title of Miss DNE. This pageant will take place on the May 11, 2024 at the SVGCC Villa Campus.”

Danzine pointed out the aim of the Miss DNE Pageant is “to show the world that nurses aren’t just nurses. That our career does not define us and that we can do other things. So you would find in this pageant the same aspects as Miss SVG…you have your talent aspect, your interview, and so we just want to show the diversity of our students, because a lot of people see the nursing career as a personality.”

We’re more than just nurses…we can do everything that you can do and still do our job to the best of our ability. That’s the aim right now.  For it, and this is the first year for our pageant, so we’re trying to set the trend and give the expectation of what it should be for, they should expect for years to come.”

According to Danzine, to date the committee has been “doing all promotional activities, still looking for sponsors and, and we look forward to everyone coming out and supporting.”

She added that the response from the school authorities has been very encouraging, “They are very much into it. They’re very much looking forward to it and pushing it. We’ve had numerous events already. We did a bake sale outside of Singer already to raise funds. The lecturers are very much supportive of these things. We have the time off because even doing this, we still have to attend school, so we have the time off, we get the time off from school and from clinicals to do our practices, and we’re given that special allowance when it comes to these things.

The eight contestants are Trevisha Cadougan – Miss Cornwallis, Simonique Denis – Miss A. Dougan, Jozelle Henry – Miss Mahoney, Jordan Joseph – Miss F. Lavia, Nadia Lewis – Miss S. Baptiste, Zaria Lynch – Miss Seacole, Donasha Toney – Miss A. Browne, and Tiaree White – Miss Nightingale.

On Saturday five of the eight contestants were present at the Teddy Bear Clinic in the persons of Miss Simony Dennis, Miss Nadia Lewis, Miss Zaria Lynch, Miss Thierry White, and Miss Trevisha Cadogan.

Danzine explained that the other three were unable to make it for various reasons, one of them being out of state.
