Temporary Parliament building to be converted into a students’ hostel

THE TEMPORARY parliament building which is now under construction in the coastal town of Calliaqua will eventually be used as a student hostel.

So said Finance Minister Gonsalves, as he spoke on NBC radio on Wednesday, October 19 during which he touched on a range of matters.

Minister Gonsalves explained that the building in Calliaqa will be transformed into a hostel to house students attending the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC), who live in the Grenadines and in remote North Windward and North Leeward communities.

He said students from some of these areas face challenges with accommodation and that the building in Calliaqua is designed in such a way, that it can easily be converted into a hostel.

The roof for the temporary parliament building recently arrived here from Trinidad and Tobago.

Installation should begin by next week, along with some plumbing and electrical work.

The building should be completed by January next year.

Government plans to build a new Parliament and Hall of Justice at Richmond Hill, Kingstown.
