Clare Valley prepares to lay its sons from Sandy Bay accident to rest this weekend

The five men who lost their lives in an accident at Old Sandy Bay on September 11, will be laid to rest this Sunday, October 16 at Chauncey.

The deceased are: Giovanni Barker, Elvis Harold, Khalil Robin, Ishmael Bruce and Kenroy Haywood.

The men, all under the age of 40 years old were passengers in the omnibus H8190, which was travelling from Clare Valley to Owia for a funeral.

On reaching the area of Boney River in Old Sandy Bay, the van went over an embankment and overturned several feet below.

Apart from the five deaths, several other passengers were injured in the accident.

The Clare Valley residents were heading to Owia for the funeral of Rohan ‘Charla’ Rawlins who was shot and killed at Lowmans Bay on August 15.

Sunday’s funeral service will be held at the Clare Valley Playing Field.

Viewing of the bodies is from 9:00 a.m and the service begins at 10:00 a.m.

The bodies will be laid to rest at the Chauncey Cemetery.
