PM to speak with AG on inquest in Cjae Weekes’ death

Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves is hopeful that the manner in which teenager Cjae Weekes lost his life will be determined by a coroner’s inquest as soon as possible.

Last Wednesday, March 2 on NBC Radio, Gonsalves spoke of plans to communicate with Attorney General, Jaundy Martin about the matter.

He also spoke of prior communication with police commissioner, Colin John to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated.
“When a young man dies like this we have to make sure the investigation is thorough and that every I is dotted and that every T is crossed”.

He said under the Corner’s Act, evidence relating to the death of Cjae Weekes will be presented before a coroner’s jury.

The prime minister said Weekes died in sudden and unnatural circumstances.

Weekes was admitted to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH)on Wednesday, February 2 2022, following an incident in Vermont.

According to reports, on that day Weekes was riding his motorcycle at Vermont when he was reportedly run over by a police vehicle during a chase.

The teenager suffered multiple injuries, including a broken spine which paralyzed him.

The youngster, who had also suffered a broken left leg, died at the hospital on February 6. He was buried last Sunday, February 27 2022.
