ULP leader hints that the next general election is not far off

Hundreds of supporters of the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) were given a hint that the next general elections are not too far off when last Thursday they were told by their political leader to be “On your marks!”

Members of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) at the National Council meeting at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, last Thursday.

Dr Ralph Gonsalves gave the alert while addressing the party faithful who had filled the stands at the Arnos Vale Playing Field for the National Council meeting, where the 15 candidates who were selected by the respective constituency groups were officially endorsed.

A special feature of that event was the endorsement of five new candidates, as the ruling ULP seeks to create Vincentian political history in electoral politics, by being voted into office for a fifth consecutive term.

In presenting the five new candidates, Political Leader and Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, spoke glowingly of the academic and professional achievements of the five.

The five new candidates are – Orando Brewster – Central Leeward; Curtis King – West St George; Mineva Glasgow – South Leeward; Dominic Sutherland – Central Kingstown; and Carlos Williams – Northern Grenadines.

The other endorsed candidates are – North Leeward – Carlos James; West Kingstown – Deborah Charles; East Kingstown – Luke Browne; Marriaqua – St Clair Prince; East St George – Camillo Gonsalves; South Windward – Frederick Stephenson; South Central Windward – Saboto Caesar; North Windward – Montgomery Daniel; Southern Grenadines – Edwin Snagg; and North Central Windward – Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

DR RALPH GONSALVES

The long-serving party leader laid out many of the issues which characterised the opposition’s campaign, its grasp of electoral politics, and the principles of governance.

He also spoke of the plans of his government which are currently being implemented, and others which are in final stages.

More Unity Labour Party (ULP) candidates seated at the front of the stand. All 15 ULP candidates were endorsed by their respective constituency groups.

He mentioned the continuing efforts to change the socio-economic landscape of St Vincent and the Grenadines, and the body blow it suffered as a result of Covid-19 pandemic. He was full of praise for the first responders, and the support given by the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

However he cautioned all that they have to very careful in the decisions to be made which could very well cause a regression in the development process of the country.

Notwithstanding of the many pressures faced, Gonsalves was confident that under the continuing leadership of the Unity Labour Party with he and his other Ministers, St Vincent and the Grenadines will not only continue to weather the coronavirus storm, but become a land all will be proud to live in.
