Government to spend $4 million on computer tablets for students

FOUR MILLION dollars of a Supplementary Appropriation Bill, which will be debated in Parliament today, will go towards buying computer tablets for students.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said on Sunday, April 5 that this $4 million capital project is geared toward purchasing tablets for all students in secondary schools and for the CPEA grade six class to facilitate distance learning.

“…We’re gonna order them very quickly, just in case, because the exams are going to be postponed and there are facilities

which are available already for teachers to conduct classes with students,” Gonsalves said on We FM’s ‘Issues at Hand’ programme.

Schools have been closed since March 20, a week earlier than intended for the Easter Holiday, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

And the Prime Minister said that the Ministry of Education will have talks with parents and teachers some time this week to assess whether schools should be reopened on April 13 as initially stated.
