Prisoner dies at MCMH weeks after suicide attempts
A British prisoner who is thought to have slashed his own wrist, and swallowed his dentures earlier last month, died at the hospital last Saturday, November 30.
The deceased, 57-year-old Kevin Slauter of England, was arrested in June this year, along with Kenroy Edwards, a 31-year-old chauffeur and Javid Chetram, a 26-year-old sailor of Grenada.
The trio was charged with, in Richmond, on June 12, having in their possession 183,416g of cannabis, and for the offence of drug trafficking.
While Slauter had admitted his guilt, his companions did not.
The English boat captain was therefore awaiting the progression of the matter while being remanded in prison.
On November 13, Slauter is said to have swallowed his dentures and slit his left wrist. Since then, he had been warded at the hospital. However, he passed away this Saturday.
SEARCHLIGHT understands that Slauter’s co-accused Chetram, although a Grenadian national, was granted bail for the offences. Edwards, a Vincentian, was awarded bail when the trio was first charged.
The case is still pending before the Serious Offences Court.
