Blazing Fire reviving live, homegrown music in SVG

The band “Blazing Fire” is trying to revive the live music scene in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) while pushing homegrown music.

The band is made up of Glenroy “Homey” Delpesche (key board and vocals), Douglas “Spinach” Franklyn (drum and vocals) and bass man Thomas Richards.

In a recent interview, Delpesche told SEARCHLIGHT that this year, Blazing Fire is trying “a lot of things” in relation to promoting and bringing back live music.

He said that over the years, the live music culture has been disappearing and they are trying to address this. He added that they consider themselves full-fledged musicians on a mission to help people appreciate music.

The band is available to play at hotels, bars, weddings, house parties and anywhere live music is needed. Delpesche said that this year, they will be exploring the competitive arena in an effort to boost their image.

He added that in his opinion, the death of the live band can somewhat be blamed on the effectiveness of disc jockeys being able to play a wide range of music, so to compete with this, bands have to be versatile and be able to play music for all types of people.

“This year we on the road with Tribes Mas Band on Carnival Tuesday. We are the only band that seems to be taking live music seriously. This is what we do for our livelihood. We practice every day,” commented band member Franklyn.

Persons interested in seeing the band play may visit the Graduates Calypso Tent when the 2019 calypso season kicks off. The band also frequents establishments in Bequia (on Sundays) and mainland businesses like Blue Lagoon and French Verandah.

The band launched its 2019 project last Friday at Heritage Square. They have released two original songs this year, “Tie like goat” and “Wreck the place”.
