Get that ‘popping design’ from Island Pop Swimwear
A local entrepreneur is paving the way for other local entrepreneurs with the opening of her store, Island Pop Swimwear.
The establishment, located in the Bonadie’s Plaza on Middle and Egmont Street, is owned and operated by Melissa Bonadie and caters to “everyone” who is looking for swimwear.
Apart from selling imported swimwear, and other clothing and accessories, Island Pop also carries locally designed and made swimwear from persons like Pinky Todd-Williams of Pinky’s Creations and locally made wraps by Kate Punnett.

Bonadie told SEARCHLIGHT that she decided to cater to persons looking for swimwear because of an experience she had while trying to buy a swimsuit locally.
“It started one day when I was going to the beach and looking for swimwear in Kingstown and I couldn’t find a swimsuit store, which was kind of strange because we have so many beaches, so I decided, let me open a swimwear store,” Bonadie explained.
She added that while she imports swimsuits, she wants to promote local designers, so she asked Pinky Williams Todd of Pinky’s Creations and Kate Punnett “to do some stuff for me”.
“I want to have locals and give persons an opportunity to display their products,” explained Bonadie.
She is encouraging persons to check out her wares as the store offers “a different vibe and atmosphere”.
“I wanted to go for a Miami vibe where persons can come and take their time, look around…there is something for everybody,” Bonadie commented while adding that she also carries plus sizes.
“We have kids, something for everybody, tops, bottom and we can’t forget the men, people usually forget the men,” said the entrepreneur who is also a lawyer.
Commenting on having her designs on display, Todd-Williams said that she has been designing swimwear for 15 years and is proud to be part of Island Pop.
“I always liked fashion, but swimsuits just give me a thrill. I just love swimsuits,” said Todd-Williams who stressed that this is the first local store to carry her designs.
“I am in and it’s an overwhelming feeling because I have not done the store thing as yet, so its scary and exciting at the same time, but so far persons have been saying it’s a good thing.”
She said that Easter is coming, and persons can check Island Pop for some “popping designs” while personalized swimsuits may also be sourced through the store.
