Coreas Hazells Inc donates EC$5,000 to Vincy Cares

ONE CHILD OR family in St Vincent and the Grenadines will benefit in some way this year through a partnership with charitable organization Vincy Cares and local company, Coreas Hazells Inc.

Coreas Hazells Inc. presented a cheque for $5,000 to Vincy Cares for this purpose during a handing over ceremony at the Coreas Headquarters in Kingstown on Monday.

“We will assist a child or a family in a way that will benefit them both. We have not yet decided how we are going to help but we are looking into the various resources available to us and what we can do to either benefit a child or a family in the new year,” Gillian Arthur, the president of Vincy Cares told SEARCHLIGHT in an interview on Monday.

Arthur said that members of the organization were elated to receive the donation, especially since they have been trying to tap into the local business sector for the last four years.

Vincy Cares is a nineyear- old charitable organization that assists less fortunate children in this country to attend secondary schools. The president said that these students come from all areas in St Vincent and the Grenadines who may have done well in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) but have limitations as it relates to funding their secondary education.

“We have three fundraising events and unfortunately, it doesn’t take us to where we want to go so we are trying to tap into the local businesses to help us to help the younger ones. And Coreas, I must say is the first company that has actually jumped on board with us and we are happy, happy, happy for that and we hope with Coreas jumping on, we can get some others to follow suit,” she said.

Joel Providence, the managing director of Coreas Hazells Inc, said that he was inspired by what Vincy Cares have been doing over the years and this helped to trigger the notion of the donation.

“Coreas has been a company that has been at the centre of commerce in St Vincent for so long that we cannot help but get involved and we made the pledge for this year, next year and hopefully next year, we will make another pledge and it will go on for a long time. Once they keep doing the good work, we will continue to support what they are doing at home more than likely and also what they are going abroad as well,” Providence said.
