Curtains come down on WPP mission in SVG for 2018

The World Pediatric Project (WPP) concluded the year on a grateful and high note with a final laparoscopic mission.

For the period January to December 2018 there were a total of 14 missions in St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, the hub for pediatric specialty care in the Eastern Caribbean.

A total of 763 patients were evaluated, 199 from the region and 564 locally. A total of 183 children received surgical intervention, 72 children from across the region and 111 Vincentian patients.

On Friday, December 7, Kim Haydock, President – Rotary Club St. Vincent South presented a cheque to Dr Dave Lanning Medical Director of World Pediatric Project in a brief handing over presentation, which took place at the office of World Pediatric Project. Dr Lanning said the partnership has been very special for years and he can’t thank Rotary enough, for the support which will help them move forward into 2019. Lanning said “the latest mission was very successful, 9 children received complex minimum invasive operations that allow them to become much healthier and happier and move forward with their lives. The hospital has been wonderful and the staff been fantastic as well as the people being warm and welcoming to our team”.

Lauren McIntosh –Executive Director of World Pediatric Project says WPP definitely has achieved a lot this year and thanked the Rotary club St. Vincent South for their long standing support and said the donation will assist the team on the road when on island. McIntosh added she is happy they are on board and that their motto which is service above self is certainly seen with the donation which is definitely an indication of the motto particular at this Christmas time.

President Kim Haydock says  she is pleased and proud to partner with WPP as they have a long history  transcending  over 15 years, she says,“WPP has grown in leaps and bounds and is way bigger than Rotary could ever have imagine and now Rotary just plays a small role in partnering with them in any way they can, Haydock says St Vincent and the Eastern Caribbean can never thank the WPP for all the wonderful work they have done and we are all deeply indebted to the World Pediatric Project  and hope the work continues.”

Dr Bharatti Datta, Medical Director for Eastern Caribbean says it goes to prove that when a child is concerned it just needs a lot of likeminded people to celebrate the lives of children and her duty is to see that the children get better and get back to their homes. She said they will join hands and hearts to go out and look after our children.

Samanthia Charles, Secretary of the Rotary Club of St Vincent South and the direct contact between the club and WPP says they are very happy to be continuing with WPP and they look forward to a successful year in 2019 and they will continue to do all they can to ensure the missions are successful.

World Pediatric Project offers surgical and diagnostic critical pediatric care to children of the Eastern Caribbean and has been actively working in St. Vincent & the Grenadines since 2002. The work of WPP and its impact can be followed at www.worldpediatricproject.org.
