Ateishah Lockhart does hattrick for Individual of the Bands

For several years, the name Lockhart has been synonymous with winning Vincy Mas masquerade competitions, and this year is no different.

Ateishah Lockhart, apart from winning the 2018 Queen of the Band competition (for the second time), was also crowned the 2018 Individual of the Year with her display of “Moon run til day ketch um” from Owen Ralph and the Professionals’ “Things People Say” presentation.

“I am very happy about that, grateful to God and very happy,” an elated Ateishah commented to SEARCHLIGHT during a recent interview.

She said that this year, she managed a hat-trick in the Individual of the Bands competition and that, to her, is a great accomplishment.

“I should have been going for hat-trick in Queen too, but I am just happy to add another title to the family’s name,” Ateishah said via telephone. She added that she will continue to take part in the competitions “as long as I have life.”

Ateishah’s advice to masqueraders in competitions is, “just have fun and be proud and happy to display what you have.”

The winning costumes are always built by Ateishah’s father Oxley “D-Giddy” Lockhart who believes in working with the smaller bands to help them build on their reputation and promote their product.
Second place in the Individual of the Bands competition was Xtreme FM 104.3FM G&T Enterprise Lynx Mas Band’s “Devastating Elements” while third place went to SVG Players International Mas Band’s “Legends of Soca Monarch-Best of the Best.”

This year, Ateishah was in a first-place tie for the Queen of the Bands competition with BMC Amerijet Magic 103.7 FM Blondie Bird & Friends’ Semone Richardson. Richardson presented “Lepidophobia-Fear of Butterflies” from their 2018 presentation “Phobia.”

Ateishah’s brother Atiron was crowned King of the Bands with his portrayal of “Elements of Natural Disasters” from Lynx Mas Band and their 2018 presentation “Devastating Elements.” All costumes were built by their father Oxley.

Ateishah Lockhart crowned the 2018 Individual of the Year with her display of “Moon run til day ketch um” from Owen Ralph and the Professionals’ “Things People Say” presentation.

Ateishah was first in the Individual of the Bands competition in 2017 with “Vincy Mas 2017- Escape Pandora’s Box” from Owen Ralph and the Professionals and also first in 2016 with the portrayal of “Pan – Musical Instrument of the Caribbean” from Owen Ralph and the Professionals. She was third in the Queen of the Bands competition last year.

[CORRECTION – In our edition of July 13, 2018, we erroneously stated that the winner of the King of the Bands competition was Atiba Lockhart. The competition was won by his younger brother Atiron.]
