11 to battle for Calypso Crown

Come July 8, a new calypso monarch will be crowned.

Last Friday, at the semi-finals show dubbed ‘Fantastic Friday’, 11 calypsonians were chosen from among 22 to compete at the Dimanche Gras show at Victoria Park.

Chosen to be part of the July 8 show are from Glenroy ‘Sulle’ Caesar, Maxwell ‘Tajoe’ Francis, Kingsley ‘Hero’ Roberts, Kenneth ‘Vibrating Scakes’ Alleyne, Adolphus ‘I Come’ Miller, Elvis ‘AbiJah’ Abbey, Fitzroy ‘Brother Ebony’ Joseph, Shaunelle McKenzie, Zamfir ‘Man Zangie’ Adams, Cleopatra Hendrickson and Shena Collis.
The reserve is Shernelle ‘Skarpyan’ Williams.

The reigning monarch Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Nedd will not defend her crown due to illness.

The show will begin at 9 pm and will see each calypsonian performing two songs.

The King and Queen of the bands masquerade competition will also be held on that night.
