VINLEC holds Diesel Mechanics workshop
St Vincent Electricity Services Ltd (VINLEC) continues to provide training opportunities for staff in the Engineering Division as the Company seeks to build a cadre of trained personnel in the field.
The latest training came in the form of a Diesel Mechanics workshop which targeted persons who work in the Power Plant environment. Seventeen participants were involved in a five-day training programme to examine a pertinent issue in the Power Pant Environment – Diesel Engine Fundamentals. Among the participants was one from the Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC).
They were enlightened on diesel engines and the fundamentals of the diesel cycle, diesel engine speed, fuel control and protection and key terms in the area. The aspect of Safety was a focal point of discussion as VINLEC continues to highlight the importance of workplace safety at all levels in the organization.
The participants are now more proficient on matters that relate to diesel crankshaft and engine piston design and structure, three phase combustion, components of the diesel fuel system and cylinder head valve operation and components. Other areas of focus were coolant and lubrication passages in the cylinder head, as well as the operation of a direct and indirect injection fuel delivery system.
The facilitator was Cornelius Gedeon, assistant lecturer at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, St Lucia. Gedeon noted that the training was geared towards providing knowledge to the participants that will help them to maintain and operate more efficient Power Plants. He noted that he was pleased with the response and participation and that the knowledge gained would help the participants to develop at the professional and personal levels.
The training took place from June 18 to 22 at the Cane Hall Training Room. Participants received certificates of participation for successfully completion of the training programme.
