Gianna wants to be a paediatrician

If Gianna Stapleton gets her wish, in a few years time this country will have another paediatrician.

Gianna, who sat the 2018 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) examinations as a pupil of the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School, placed fourth for girls and sixth overall with a 93.80 per cent average.

The 12-year-old resident of Twenty Hill, Vermont on Monday thanked her teachers Ruthier Gumbs, Juliet Culzac, Andia Hadley, Theodore Trimmingham and Yolande Hoyte for working with her and her classmates and helping them achieve success.

The daughter of Giselle Mayers and Benny Stapleton also attributed her success to studying, using past CPEA examination papers as practice, after school lessons and help from her parents.

“I will also like to thank God,” said Gianna who is happy that she will be attending the Girls’ High School (GHS), the almamater of her mother and aunt.

Giving advice to students, Gianna stressed, “Give praise to God first and do not get distracted and believe that you can do it.”

She said that she would like to become a paediatrician to help sick children.

One of Gianna’s teachers, Ruthier Gumbs said that she is proud of the students because they worked hard.

Of the 94 students that sat the exams, 92 passed.

Gumbs is encouraging parents to help their children as she believes that once students are motivated and are given assistance, teachers have an easy job working with them.

“We had high expectations and they did well. I am excited and happy for them and I know that the students who did not do so well, this is just the beginning and they will go on to secondary school and succeed,” said Gumbs.
