Mespo youth commits suicide
Last Tuesday, June 5, this country recorded what appears to be its second suicide in nine days.
On the morning in question, the community of Mesopotamia woke up to the news that one of their own, 20-year-old Darren Weekes, had taken his life.
Following the report, police launched an investigation into Weekes’s death. According to reports, Weekes was discovered in the laundry at his home, with a wire around his neck about 7:15 am by his mother, who alerted the police. He was pronounced dead by Dr Kemba Joseph at 10:25 am.
A neighbour who knew Weekes well described him as a “cool boy” who never got into any kind of trouble.
“I never hear nobody say he get in any trouble or anything like that. I feel sad for he mother, I feel sad for he. Plenty people saying they never expect he to do such a thing knowing he. This morning when they tell me he hang he self I couldn’t believe,” said the neighbour.
She said that she last saw Weekes last week and he said hello and went his way. He is a former student of the Kingstown Preparatory School (KPS), the St Vincent Grammar School (SVGS) and the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC).
His death is the second suicide in less than two weeks, as on Sunday, May 27, Emelia Francois, a resident of Redemption Sharpes is said to have killed herself by ingesting the insecticide Sevin.
