Lewis Punnett Home receives help from JEMS, New York, again
For the 5th year, the New York-based, non-profit humanitarian organization JEMS: Hope 4 Home, has donated health care and comfort supplies for use by citizens housed at the Lewis Punnett Home, here.
The group, headed by president Carol Simmons, who resides in Brooklyn, New York, says that they are indeed pleased that the group can help some of the most needy persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Simmons noted that the initiative began in 2011 and the group has, since then, made annual donations to several health facilities and communities across the country. âIt certainly is a blessing to give back to our country, especially in times of need,â Simmons said. The group is planning to continue to make donations home to support local efforts.
The Lewis Punnett Home has been on the receiving end of these donations since 2013. On the last two occasions the facility received pillows, sheets, disinfectant, lysol, Clorax, Clorax wipes, among other cleaning supplies, including paper towels, soap, toiletries, pampers and other disposable linen.
JEMSâ general efforts have supported various communities in SVG over the years. These include donations, to communities in North Windward, North Leeward, Central Leeward, East, Central and West Kingstown, Marriaqua and Bequia, of general food packages for over 60 persons on each occasion.
In addition to these food packages, JEMS has provided medical supplies to community clinics in East and West St George, Union Island and East Kingstown, and school supplies in East St George.
This yearâs presentation was made on Friday, March 16, by health planner and local co-ordinator David Latchman, who also thanked the group for their ongoing contributions and support.
Simmons says that the group wishes to thank the many supporters of their fund-raising and donation drives, who make all of this possible. The organization would also like to thank Standard Shippers and their team in Brooklyn, New York, for their support over the years, which has assisted in getting the items to SVG on each occasion, at a reduced cost.
