SVGMA advancing thrust to promote prostate, breast cancer awareness
This being September, the SVG Medical Association (SVGMA) is again advancing its thrust to promote public awareness of both prostate and breast cancer in our society.
âWe continue forward with our programs of putting our strengths together to bring greater and greater awareness of the prevalence of both diseases which is affecting our society in very distinct ways,â a release from the SVGMA said.
Statistics show that in 2015, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) lost 54 males to prostate cancer.
âThese individuals represent, husbands, fathers, uncles, brothers, close friends of members of our Vincentian society,â the release said.
For 2017, the SVGMA is heightening its campaign by hosting a TUG-OF-WAR Competition on Saturday, September 30 at 4 p.m. at the Victoria Park.
âOur organization is inviting members of clubs, organizations, companies, secondary schools, the community college and the medical schools. Each team should have 10 members (8 âTuggersâ and 2 extras). Teams should wear their organizationsâ membership shirts, or blue or white Tee shirts.â
Each team is invited to register with the SVG Medical Association by September 27, by calling 457-0317 to provide their information.

The registration fee is $100 EC per team. A special high profile team is expected to make a cameo appearance, which according to the SVGMA, is expected to add to the excitement of this event.
The entrance fee from the public is $2 and persons can make contributions to the prostate cancer cause.
Trophies will be presented to winners.
All are invited to come and win bragging rights to tug against prostate cancer.
