J-Neen receives BUNPAN’s 46th scholarship award

On Wednesday, July 19, the Marriaqua United Friendly Society (Bunpan) made its 46th scholarship award since the programme started in 1985.

J-Neen Toney, a former pupil of the Kingstown Preparatory School, who placed 13th for girls and 20th overall in this year’s Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), is the well-deserved winner of the Bunpan Scholarship Award.

J-Neen will receive fourteen hundred dollars ($1,400) per year over seven (7) years, in addition to fees for external examinations as she pursues her school programme. J-Neen, who is the daughter of Cephus Toney and Sheryl Thomas of Carriere, will begin her secondary school education in September at the St Vincent Girls’ High School.

The award ceremony heard remarks from Bunpan’s president Rickie Burnett, who gave general information on the society and provided encouragement to the gathering, comprising pupils and their parents/guardians and other supporters of the society. The motivational speaker was Olivia Da Silva, who delivered an excellent address from the background of a retired senior educator and a Christian parent. She emphasized the necessary and crucial role of parents in the morale and educational guidance of their children. Her address was very well received by the audience, who showed their appreciation in rounds of applause.

The society also presented one-off assistance of one $100 to each of 19 other students who passed the CPEA. During the ceremony, lively entertainment was provided by singers Anelia Williams and Brianca Matthias. The society, including trustee Garvin Jackson and manager Margaret Clarke, who also assisted in the scholarship award ceremony, wish the students and their parents success in their educational journey.
