Taiwan CCH medical team pays visit to SVG

The 11th Taiwan Changhua Christian Hospital (CCH) medical team paid a visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in July and received a warm welcome from the Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves and the Minister of Health Luke Browne.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves welcomed the team as the first team to touch down at the newly opened Argyle International Airport. The Prime Minister said he appreciated the valued cooperation between Taiwan and SVG. Minster Browne also stressed the importance of mutual collaboration in medical fields for the benefits of Vincentian patients.

The team comprised Dr Kun-tu Yeh (Pathologist), Sock-ping Ng (Chief Pharmacist), Dr Tren-yi Chen (ER doctor), Sr Hsiu-tzu Hsu (ICU nurse) and Sr Hsin-hui Tseng (ER nurse). With the arrangement of Sr Grace Walters, the Hospital Administrator, the medical team worked closely with different departments and exchanged views on medical treatments during their stay in the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Particularly, in order to deepen the bonds between the CCH and Vincentian patients, the CCH Chief Pharmacist Sock-ping Ng promoted the medication administration by introducing “5 Rights” to the patients at the Pharmacy in the MCMH. According to her, these 5 Rights are “Right Patient, Right Drug, Right Route, Right Dose and Right Time.” It is important to follow these 5 steps in order to keep patients safe and prevent harm. Her introduction gained positive feedbacks from patients.

The team stayed in SVG from July 10 to July 28. All the members are appreciative for the assistance provided by the Ministry of Health and the MCMH. They also had the unforgettable experience of participating the 40th anniversary of Vincy Mas. The CCH will be sending its next team to SVG between November and December 2017.
