Two unions back PWA

Two public sector unions are standing in solidarity with the Police Welfare Association (PWA) after three of its executive members were transferred.

In a release dated July 19 and signed by Wendy Bynoe and Javelle Frank, the public relations officers of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU) and the Public Service Union (PSU) respectively, the unions said they strongly condemn the transfers.

“We strongly condemn the transfers of the officers and we deem the action to be high-handed and tantamount to victimization, a breach of the officers’ human rights; and a violation the Decent Work Agenda. The SVGPWA raised a number of serious and legitimate concerns

which the authorities have failed to address. In light of this, the SVGTU and PSU call on the government to immediately address the outstanding concerns, raised by the SVGPWA, and to ensure that there is an adherence to and respect for the human rights of all citizens,” the release said.
