Zamfir âMan Zangieâ Adams will, this Sunday, July 9, attempt to win his fourth consecutive national calypso crown and as a result, tie the record currently held by Jeffers âMighty Shellerâ Alexis.
Man Zangie will come up against 10 other calypsonians and if he once again takes the top spot, he will match Mighty Sheller, who won the competition in 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973.
Coming up against Man Zangie this year are Shernelle âSkarpyonâ Williams, Roberts âPatchesâ King, Lornette âFyah Empressâ Nedd, Glenroy âSulleâ Caesar, Joanna Christopher, Shaunelle Mc Kenzie, Shena Collis, Glenford âAzarahâ Charles, Cecile âLil Bitâ Murray and Kenneth âVibrating Scakesâ Alleyne, who all got the judgesâ nod after performing at the semi-finals show, dubbed Fantastic Friday, at Victoria Park on June 30.
Man Zangie, a police officer, won last year with the songs âFaith in Hairounaâ and âAccess Deniedâ.
The Calypso Finals will be held on July 9, during the Dimanche Gras show, which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Victoria Park.
