Vincentian students to take part in Global Young Leaders Conference
Five outstanding Vincentian students will join an international gathering of tomorrowâs leaders at the 2017 Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC), an Envision programme. Lyndsay Dowers, Carmold Murray, Léis Ollivierre, Abeni Richards and Sujith Weerasena-Nedd, all first year students in the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, are set to take part in the unique global leadership development experience.
The students will attend the conference session held from Monday, July 3 to Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Conference sessions will take place in Washington, DC and New York City, as young scholars build on global leadership skills and strategies that are critical for success in the 21st century.
At the 10-day conference, the students will interact with key leaders who influence global politics, finance, culture, and diplomacy. Thought provoking simulations are coupled with opportunities to collaborate with peers from around the world, preparing students with the critical leadership skills needed to resolve global conflicts.
Like most students who attend the conference, the scholars were nominated by teachers and guidance counsellors, based on their academic performance and leadership potential.
âIt is imperative that todayâs students know how to compete and cooperate on a global scale,â said Andrew Potter, chief academic officer for the Global Young Leaders Conference. âWhen diverse ideas and points of view are shared, the true results of the conference are realized.â
Scholars who attend GYLC will visit international embassies and participate in Global Issues Workshops and the Global Simulation Summit, where they debate, negotiate and build coalitions to resolve emerging global challenges.
