The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) has revealed the artistes who will this year compete for the junior calypso and junior soca monarch crowns.
The 2017 competitions, scheduled for Tuesday July 4 at the Victoria Park, will see performances from a number of new faces, as well as known junior performers.
Taking part in the junior calypso primary school competition are Kiara Hazel of the Paradise Primary School, Bequia, with the song âGrenadinesâ; Jontiel Burke of the Paradise Primary School, Bequia with âFishing Lineâ; Alavonel Lavia of the Owia Government School with âGive me loveâ; Kaily Cyrus of the C W Prescott Primary School with âMy idolâ; Fidel Cyrus of the Kingstown Anglican School with âNever too youngâ; Alexio Edwards of the Gomea Methodist School with âLifestyle diseaseâ; Eto Gordon of the Questelles Government School with âPlaying de Masâ and Zakiyah Garrick of the Kingstown Government School with âTouch down at Argyleâ. The defending monarch is Kristian Christopher of the Layou Government School.
The junior calypso secondary school competition will see competition from Damian Noel of the St Martinâs Secondary School with âDemand De Planâ; Kristiane Christopher of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School with, âFrom Federation to Fragmentationâ; Abigail Alexander of the Bishopâs College Kingstown with âWords of Encouragementâ; Chachane Morgan of the St Vincent Girlsâ High School with âClimate Changeâ; Ladonna Free of the West St George Secondary School with âViolence in Schoolâ; Javid Baptiste of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with âToo much Gunâ; Keston Richardson of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with âLiarsâ and Daleann Nero of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with âSave Sandy Bayâ. The defending monarch is Tia Wyllie of the Thomas Saunders Secondary.
The junior soca monarch finalists are Tia Wyllie of the Thomas Saunders Secondary with âDe Whole Place Mash Upâ; MâRiah Robertson of the West St George Secondary School with âCarnivalâ; Omari Davy of the New Prospect Primary School with âICT Technologyâ; Delisha Brackin of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with âGimme Socaâ; Richard James of the Belair Government School with âABCâ; Ariel Turtin of the Greiggs Government School with âShake your Bumpaâ; Sakora Loraine of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with âWe Playing Masâ and Delanzo Lavia of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with âAccidentâ. The defending monarch is Kristiana Christopher of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.
