Police investigate death of Trinidad boat captain

Local investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy that is expected to be carried out this week on the body of 53-year-old Trinidadian boat captain Alexis McLean.

McLean’s lifeless body was found floating in the Kingstown harbour last Friday, March 24 around 7 p.m., two days after his colleagues reported him missing.

The Trinidad and Tobago national was last seen alive on Wednesday, March 22, between 7 and 8 p.m. when he told friends that he was not feeling well and was going to seek medical attention.

Reports are that McLean suffered from high blood pressure and was distressed over a cocaine related incident, which saw him and his crew being detained in Tortola about three weeks ago.

A missing person’s report had been filed on Thursday, March 23, after McLean’s crew could not locate him.

McLean was the captain of the C Elizabeth II, a Trinidadian owned motor vessel that carries out inter-island transportation of general goods mainly between Trinidad and St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
