Traffic to be diverted to allow for Cumberland Bridge reconstruction

Residents of Spring Village, surrounding communities and all of North Leeward are advised that effective Monday, March 27, the Cumberland Bridge will be closed to facilitate its demolition.

The Ministry of Transport, Works, Urban Development and Local Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Project Services, in a release said work on the Cumberland Bridge Reconstruction Project is advancing apace and it has therefore become necessary to divert the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area.

Firstly, the bypass bridge linking Charles Village to the road leading to the VINLEC Hydro Station 3 will be officially opened for public use today, Friday, March 24. This would then be followed by the closure of the existing main bridge on Monday, March 27 to facilitate its demolition.

The general public is therefore asked to take note of the proposed changes and to exercise utmost caution when driving or walking vicinity of the construction works and to obey the relevant traffic and safety signs that would be erected at the site.

The work is being carried out by Trinidad Contractors Limited who would appreciate the continued cooperation of all during this period of inconvenience while constructing this vital infrastructure aimed at improving the national road network.
