SVG joins the world in celebrating Customs Day

The members of staff of the Customs and Excise Department of St Vincent and the Grenadines joined their counterparts around the world to celebrate International Customs Day on January 26, 2017.

This year’s celebration was held under the slogan “Effective Border Management in a Modern Customs Environment”.

International Customs Day is the anniversary of the first meeting of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 1953. It’s an event that recognizes the efforts of Customs workers all over the world and recognizes the contribution made by Customs administrations towards making our communities safe and prosperous.

This year, the department sought to showcase efforts and activities that promote modernization.

“As we move toward the future, we focus on enhancing border management and working with stakeholders to maintain a high level of operation,” a release said.

International Customs Day is also an occasion to acknowledge those agencies that work long with Customs to enhance trade and economic well-being.

The Department, guided by this year’s slogan, commemorated this occasion with a number of activities held from January 23 to 28, 2017. Officers visited schools to discuss the roles and functions of customs, held an open exhibition, a Prayer Breakfast and made time to socialize with a Family Fun Day.

The Customs and Excise Department would like to take this opportunity to thank all our clients, stakeholders and staff for their understanding, support and cooperation throughout the year. We solicit your cooperation in the future as we work to connect with each other and to work together for a more efficient and economic growth.
