Farmers in SVG to have international air access
In 2017, farmers will, for the first time, have international air access from St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar, during a press conference on Tuesday, described this new development as one of the big areas for 2017.
ââ¦Our farmers are going to have the opportunity, the first time in the history of our country in the agricultural sector, to have international air access from St Vincent to many of these traditional {{more}}and non-traditional markets,â Caesar said.
The Minister explained that while in a discussion with two major importers during recent visits to New York and Toronto, he was told that unless there are direct flights from Argyle International Airport to Toronto, they would not be able to move the volumes or commodities that they wish to move.
He added that the importers said that they would not be taking the risk of taking these commodities by ship.
â…So we are going to look forward very early in 2017 to work with different groups of farmers to ensure that a programme is in place to have whether it is co-operative, farmersâ organizations, export groups, to ensure that they are up and ready to take this opportunity forward.â (CM)
