Conman severely beaten in Glen

A well-known conman received the beating of his life a few weeks ago when he once again tried to impersonate a police officer.

Reports are that the convicted con artist went to the home of a man in the Glen area, where he met four men in the yard.{{more}}

The trickster is alleged to have told the men that he was an officer of the law and that for a sum, he could assassinate men from the Kingstown area with whom the four have an ongoing dispute.

The men are said to have asked the conman for his police identification card and when he could not show one, he was severely beaten and placed in the trunk of a car and taken to a nearby police station.

He was later hospitalized and the matter is said to be under investigation.

Earlier this year, the same man pleaded guilty to the impersonation of two police officers. He had tried to defraud a Kingstown Park woman and a Prospect man. He was charged with similar offences in 2014, when he dishonestly obtained by deception the sum of EC$300 from a man in Argyle, with the intention of permanently depriving him of it. He was also charged with dishonestly obtaining by deception EC$400 in cash from a businessman of Arnos Vale, with the intention of permanently depriving him of it.

Up to press time, the man had not been charged in relation to this latest incident. (LC)
