Paul’s Avenue man killed on way from football

A lone masked gunman on Tuesday night walked up to a Paul’s Avenue resident after a soccer game at the Victoria Park and pumped four bullets into him.

Dead is 48-year-old Sean “Yellow” Dopwell (also known as Dappie), who was fatally wounded outside the Victoria Park at around 9.50 p.m. He had just finished playing a masters’ soccer game.{{more}}

The former national footballer, who spent a number of years in Canada before returning to St Vincent and the Grenadines, was shot at point blank range, with a bullet striking him in the cheek and exiting the back of his head and another one hitting him in the area of his heart.

He was shot in the clear view of others, while placing some items in the trunk of his car.

Dopwell was rushed to the nearby Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) where he died at 10:10 p.m.

Reports are that earlier this year, an attempt was made on Dopwell’s life. While in the New Montrose area, someone shot at him, but missed.

Dopwell’s murder brought the total number of homicides for the year to 32 and members of the public with information that can assist with the investigation are asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 457-1211, 456-2906 or 456-1810.
