The conference was held from October 10 to October 12, 2016, under the theme “The Garifuna Diaspora: Yurumein and St Vincent and the Grenadines – Retrieval, Inclusion and Reparation.”

“Hiroona: an historical romance in poetic form,” by Rev Cannon Horatio Nelson Huggins, was donated by Dr De’sha Osbourne, adjunct assistant professor, Hunter College, City University of New York, USA, a panelist at the recently concluded International Garifuna Conference. The handing over took place at the National Archives on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10 a.m.

Dr Lennox Honeychurch, history lecturer, researcher and former resident tutor, UWI Open Campus, presented a copy of his book, “Negre Mawon: The Fighting Maroons of Dominica,” to Jeon Adams-Julien, librarian, on behalf of the National Public Library, Archives and Documentation Services.

This donation was made on the appeal of Adams-Julien that there was need for persons/groups to submit copies of their publications about St Vincent and the Grenadines to the National Public Library, Archives and Documentation Services.

She said this will ensure that records of all locally published material are lodged for posterity. This donation was made at the closing ceremony of the conference on October 12.
