Curtains come down on Courts Reading Competition today

A new reading champ will be crowned today, as the finals of the local leg of the Courts OECS Reading Competition come off at the Peace Memorial Hall.

Seven young readers will vie for a chance to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at the regional finals in St Kitts and Nevis this month, as well as a host of other prizes.{{more}}

Apart from the overseas representation, the first place winner will receive $2,000, a laptop compliments Courts, a tablet from SEARCHLIGHT, a smartphone from FLOW, $2,000 for their winning school and an opportunity to read the news on SVGTV.

Second place winner will $750 cash, a trophy from One St Vincent Group Limited and an opportunity to read the news on NBC Radio 705, and third place winner will get a trophy from One St Vincent Group Limited, $500 cash and an opportunity to read the news on WEFM Radio.

Each participant will receive a gift certificate from Lola’s, a six-pack from the Brewery, books from Jujube bookstore, a gift basket from Better Brands and a certificate of participation.

The seven finalists are Azairia Commissiong of the Windsor Primary School, Kaige Cruickshank of the Kingstown Preparatory School, Leah Millington of the Spring Village Methodist School, Jonniel Stowe of the Lodge Village Government School, Arianna Chambers of the Mary Hutchinson Primary School, Kaylee Robertson of the Stubbs Primary School and Nyema Richardson of the Belair Government School.

The sponsors for this year’s event are St Vincent Brewery Ltd, Jujube Bookstore, Searchlight Newspaper, OSV, Flow, SVG TV, NBC Radio 705, WE FM and Better Brands.

This is the 8th year that the competition is taking place, with St Vincent and the Grenadines yet to be crowned regional champions. Local organizers hope to make this the year that the 2016 winner brings the title home.
