Georgetown woman fears neighbour will take her life

Nathalie Quashie-John, a Georgetown resident who claims that she is being tormented by a man in her area, feels helpless and does not know what to do to stop her and her family’s molestation.

Quashie-John said that the latest round of humbug has caused her to flee her Georgetown home and take up residence closer to Kingstown in an area she does not want to disclose, in fear that her tormentor might find her.{{more}}

According to the distraught lady who visited the SEARCHLIGHT on Monday, August 29 with her two daughters, for over 11 years now this man has been harassing her and despite repeatedly seeking help from the police, she cannot seem to get him to stop.

She said that on two occasions, the man has set fire to her home and during one of these incidents her security cameras showed a naked man entering her yard, but the footage was not clear enough to give a satisfactory view of the man’s face.

Quashie-John said that during the last week in August, the same man was taken to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and found guilty of causing one of the fires at her home. He was then fined.

SEARCHLIGHT was able to verify that Glenroy Providence was found guilty of arson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and ordered to pay compensation to Quashie-John, or in default spend a year in prison.

But Quashie-John said that she told the magistrate that she would rather Providence be sent to prison instead of paying a fine, but the court decided to fine the man and give him time to pay.

She said that if Providence was sent to prison, she would have felt at ease, at least for a short while.

Visibly distressed, Quashie-John said that no one in the neighbourhood is willing to back up her stories with the police, as they fear that the man, who is tormenting her, will begin to harass them as well.

On August 28, 2015, SEARCHLIGHT reported that Quashie-John was living in fear of her life and the lives of her children, from the same neighbourhood man.

According to her, he had committed several violent acts against her, including breaking into her house, stealing money, killing her animals, and setting a fire previously to her shed.

In addition to this, he would harass her 13-year-old daughter, by making inappropriate sexual comments to her whenever he would pass her in the street.

Quashie-John told SEARCHLIGHT that she has two more court cases involving Providence and she feels that she will eventually be killed by her tormentor.
