Vincentians among 18 awarded Chevening Scholarships

Two Vincentians are among a record number of nationals of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean who have been awarded Chevening Scholarships.

Bradley Douglas and Jeville John of St Vincent and the Grenadines were among 18 persons who were presented with certificates by High Commissioner Victoria Dean at a ceremony at the British High Commission in Barbados recently.{{more}}

Douglas will study Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security at Newcastle University while Jeville John will study Law at University, College London.

From Barbados, Firhaana Bulbulia will study Education, Gender and International Development at UCL Institute of Education, University of London, while Jamalia Wyllie will study Renewable Energy: Technology and Sustainability at the University of Reading.

Kurt Williams of Antigua and Barbuda will study International Relations: Politics, Governance and Development Policy at the University of Manchester.

Three Dominicans are among the scholarship recipients. Cherysa Anselm will study Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at UCL University of London; Fernillia Felix will study International Human Rights and Social Justice Law at London Metropolitan University; and Oscar George will study Economic Development and Policy Analysis at the University of Nottingham.

Grenadian Zoe Hagley will study Development Management at LSE, University of London, while

Kinna Marrast Victor, also of Grenada, will study International Business Law at Queen Mary University of London.

Shanelle Simmonds of St Kitts/Nevis will study International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS, University of London.

Six St Lucians have received awards. Tommy Descartes will study Economics and Econometrics at the University of Nottingham; Melissa Hippolyte-Descartes will study Economics at the University of Nottingham; Christal Jean will study Genetic Manipulation and Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Sussex; Ernette Kangal will study Commercial and Corporate Law at Queen Mary University of London; Tevin Shepherd will study International Social Development at the University of East Anglia; and Miguel Trim, Media and International Development at the University of East Anglia.

The Chevening Scholarships scheme is the global scholarship programme of the British Government. The scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential and they enable recipients to study one-year Master’s courses in a range of subjects at UK universities. The scholarships are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities, by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers and decision makers.
