Casson Hill was a hive of activity for the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Forceâs (RSVGPF) Traffic Department over the weekend.
Last Friday afternoon, a burning car on the Casson Hill main road interrupted the free flow of traffic for about an hour. That inferno was accompanied by at least two loud explosions.{{more}}
The car, owned and driven by Frederick Robinson, caught fire at about 3 p.m. during rush hour traffic. The traffic had backed up at that time, because some workers had been given a half holiday, so that they could attend the World Cup Qualifier soccer match between St Vincent and the Grenadines and the United States of America (USA).
One person witnessing the burning car joked that if the USA team had passed at that time, they may have thought that it was a terrorist attack.
Some persons wanting to attend the game arrived late, as firefighters fought the blaze. Robinson, the elderly driver, escaped unhurt and managed to save some of his belongings.
After the blaze was put out, Robinson appeared dejected, while staring at what remained of his vehicle.
On Saturday, a vehicle broke part of a barrier at the side of the Casson Hill public road, ran over an embankment and struck a house a few feet below.
According to a police report, the vehicle, owned by Kenneth King of Kingstown, was travelling from Arnos Vale to Kingstown when it swerved to avoid a vehicle.
The driver, after swerving, lost control and went over the embankment. The driver was taken to the hospital, treated and discharged. The vehicle was extensively damaged. Police are investigating the incident.
