Jax Enterprises Limited yesterday rewarded 10 students who were successful in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), as part their âExcellent Achieversâ programme.
Ronaldo John (Georgetown Government School), Alicena Jack (South Rivers Methodist School), Daron Edwards (Questelles Government School), Clive Smith (Troumaca Government School),{{more}} Karlson Greaves (Biabou Methodist School), Idicae Browne (Tourama Government School), Joshua Baptiste (Calliaqua Anglican School), Delroy Ashton (Spring Village Methodist School), Aqulie James (Greiggs Primary School) and Vinus Bowens (Clare Valley Primary School) all received $500 gift vouchers at an award ceremony, held at Jax Enterprises Ltd.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Social Development Frederick Stephenson applauded Jax Enterprises for continuing the programme, which assists the less fortunate persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
Stephenson said during the back to school period the Ministry spends close to one million dollars in assisting students and noted that the Ministry is happy to have partners that assist persons who are in need.
During brief remarks, parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Education Deborah Charles congratulated awardees and advised them to take the initiative and work hard. She further stated that education is the surest way out of poverty.
Jax Enterprises upgraded their programme since its inception last year when 30 students from 17 primary schools on the mainland were rewarded.
Each student received certificates of excellence for their achievements, signed by the companyâs founder, A Nathaniel Jack, along with shopping vouchers of $100.
This year, however, 110 students nationwide will receive awards. The top 10 students received Certificates of Excellence and a trophy, along with a $500 shopping voucher, redeemable on anything storewide. The other 100 students would receive the certificate, along with $100 toward school supplies.
Also, awardees who maintain a GPA over 80 per cent or who rank among the top five in their respective classes would then be eligible to reapply for scholarship amounts annually.
The company has stated that their ultimate goal is not just to reward the brightest student(s), but also to assist those who have done well, despite some form of personal or family challenge.(AS)
