Minister Mckie gives back to consituency
Ten-year-old Kareem Davis of Upper Cane Hall, a student of the Kingstown Preparatory School and Victor Ludorum in the 2016 Inter-Primary Schools Track and Field Competition, was the recipient of a pair of running shoes{{more}} to facilitate his further development in the sporting discipline.
Nze Parsons of Belair recently graduated from the Belair Primary School, having sat the 2016 CPEA, placing 135th for boys. He was also one of the outstanding sportsmen in that school. Nze received a pair of football shoes to assist him to develop his skill.
The young Rollers Football Team of Upper Cane Hall now have two additional footballs to train with to prepare for their participation in the Arnos Vale U-15 Competition later this year. Jemel Wiseman, captain of the Titans Football Team from Fairbaine and Belmont, will now step up his team training with six additional footballs donated to the club by Mckie.
But it was Edelyn Turtin of Queenâs Drive who received the lionâs share of the sporting pie. Mckie presented her with a pair of wicketkeeping pads and gloves, batting mittens, a bat and a pair of batting pads; these, in recognition of and support for her selection on the Windward Islands senior cricket team as a wicketkeeper/batter, to compete in the West Indies Tournament, which took place in Guyana from June 30 to July 25, 2016.
Mckie also donated a desk top computer system to Leroy Wilson, owner of the Tender Care Pre-School of Arnos Vale to assist them with strengthening the administrative capacities at the school.
Agricultural possibilities were also advanced, with Mckie inviting the poultry farmers to register their interest in growing and providing broiler whole fowls to a new partnership which was being developed with a young business entity located in Fairhall.
Mark James of Melisizwe productions outlined his plans to significantly increase his current production of chicken burgers, which has already been introduced to schools and hotels and restaurants. The intention is to have the farmers provide a guaranteed supply of birds to the establishment, to allow them to meet the growing interest and demands.
Mckie pointed to various ongoing summer programmes which will be implemented this year and to other support mechanisms which will continue to touch the lives in several communities going forward.
