Bursaries were also awarded to Reynold Williams and Maurissa Durrant, in the sum of $600.
At the award ceremony held at Frenches House last Thursday, featured speaker Justene Farrell encouraged students not to let anyone define who they are.
Farrell told recipients that the upcoming five years is going to be the best and worst years of their lives.
However, she encouraged them to use as many of the years to figure out what they are good at, would like to do and to figure out who they are as individuals.
Farrell confessed that she was a miserable child in primary and secondary school; however, she added that this never deterred her from becoming president of the Girlsâ High School Young Leaders 2014-2015 and the schoolâs head girl.
She disclosed that this took a lot of self-discipline and advised recipients to be ambitious, to respect others and know that there is a time for everything.
Farrell also informed recipients that secondary school is a place where they would build a lot of relationships, stressing that they must be extremely careful when choosing who they associate with.
Additionally, the second year community college student told recipients that they would not need drugs or alcohol to enjoy themselves.
âYou need friends that share similar goals and values as you, that encourage positive thinking and that uplift you,â she said.
Farrell advised the students to make the most of their education, because school is not cheap and their parents and guardians have sacrificed a lot to ensure that they get a high quality education.
While offering social advice, she encouraged young ladies to carry themselves with poise and confidence and not to allow young men to persuade them to disrespect their bodies.
âRemember cell phone cameras are for taking pictures of you, your friends and your family, fully clothed,â she said.
Farrell also urged recipients to do what is right in the sight of God, advising females to avoid being labelled as someone who attends every party.
Additionally, she told them to not compare themselves with others and encouraged parents to guide their children during the next five years, which she said would be very tough.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Clement Lynch and KCCU treasurer Gillon Frederick congratulated the recipients.(AS)
