257 participate in Obstacle Colour Run

This year, Emancipation Day saw one of the largest, most exciting and most colourful physical activities this country has ever seen.

The SVG National Diabetic/Hypertensive Association (NDHA) partnered with TUS-T water to present this country’s first ever Obstacle Colour Run and Health Fair. The event was also sponsored by CIBC First Caribbean International Bank and Corea’s Hazell’s Inc, among a few others.{{more}} The 6K run, dubbed ‘The Happiest 6K on the Planet,’ definitely lived up to its name, as the participants were all smiles from the beginning of the event to the end.

The event saw some 257 participants, who ran, jogged or walked from the Grammar School playing field to the SOV Restaurant and Bar at Villa. During the unique event, coloured paint and powder were tossed at the participants, who were all wearing white T-shirts, creating a colourful splash design. The event culminated with the participants enjoying a colourful foam party at the parking lot of the SOV Restaurant and Bar.

The event was more about health and fitness and enjoying the colourful day than it was about competition. The event was partly a launch of TUS-T water’s Start Bright initiative, which aims to ‘brighten a child’s future’ by helping to provide free nutritious school breakfasts (sanctioned by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Environment) to children who are unable to get the most important meal of the day.

At the health fair, persons were able to consult with diabetic specialists, a podiatrist, an ophthalmologist and a gynaecologist. Various health checks were also conducted, including eye screening, as well as pressure and glucose level checks. The proceeds of the Colour Run will go towards purchasing medication (pills and insulin), test strips and glucose monitors and to help diabetic and hypertensive persons with diabetic and hypertensive related surgeries. The NDHA and Tus-T water hope to make this an annual event.
