More Vincentians get scholarships from Island Scholars Inc
Seven more Vincentians have been awarded scholarships by Island Scholars Inc to undertake university education.
Island Scholars Inc, a non-profit organization located in Lawrenceville, NJ, has awarded scholarships for 2016 with a total value of XCD$44,000 to NacRee Allen, Chaz Cato, Rodley Haynes, Danielia Lewis, Niska Stewart, Brittany Straker and Keion Williams.{{more}}
The annoucement of the scholarships was made yesterday by Ronald Rose, chair of the Board of Trustees.
NacRee Allen of Diamonds Village is majoring in Medicine at All Saints Medical School; Chaz Cato of Fountain will major in Physics and Electronics at The University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine campus; Rodley Haynes of Green Hill is majoring in Accounting and Economics at UWI St Augustine campus; Danielia Lewis of Campden Park is majoring in Information Technology at UWI St Augustine campus; Niska Stewart of Arnos Vale is majoring in Management Studies at UWI Cave Hill campus; Brittany Straker of Bequia is majoring in Banking and Finance at UWI Open Campus; Keion Williams of Campden Park is majoring in Medicine at All Saints Medical School.
In addition to the 2016 scholarships, Island Scholars will renew the scholarships of the 2015 recipients who are eligible for renewal. Students must achieve a GPA of 3.0 or better and demonstrate continued financial need.
Island Scholars Inc was started by Rose, formerly of New Grounds, in 2014. The mission is to provide merit and needs-based scholarships to promising students from St Vincent and the Grenadines to advance their pursuit of a university education.
A release from the organization said the Board of Trustees thanked Sir Errol Allen and Dr Michael Joshua for their assistance in interviewing applicants and providing valuable input.
