The finalists in the challenge will all compete by reading the news LIVE on air on WEFM 99.9 in August.
Registration is currently open and interested students, parents and guardians can obtain forms at WEFMâs Kingstown or Questelles office.
The deadline for submitting completed registration forms is Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
Applicants are asked to submit a short essay, along with their registration forms, on a given topic. Applicants whose forms have been submitted to WEFM will be recorded reading 30 seconds of any appropriate material, which will be judged, along with their essays, to select five finalists.
The five finalists will then be called in for one week of broadcast training at WEFMâs studios in Questelles, from August 8 to 12, 2016.
They will then compete by reading the 12:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. newscasts on WEFM on Monday, August 15, 2016.
The best reader, as decided by the judges, will emerge as the overall winner of the challenge. The five finalists will each receive a backpack with school supplies.
The winner will receive a Tablet, compliments Courts SVG Ltd, a cash prize and a trophy. The first and second runners-up will receive smart phones.
The 2015 winner was Lynallia Isaacs of Vermont, a student of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School. The 2014 winner was Neleshia Robertson of Layou, a former student of the St Josephâs Convent Kingstown.
