âSt Vincent and the Grenadines has the greatest credit union membership penetration rate in the world. Delegates at the Co-operative Leagueâs 36th AGM spotlighted this achievement as a reflection of the popularity and influence of the credit union movement,â a release from the League said.
The meeting affirmed that with 62,868 members, consolidated savings of EC$318 million, assets of EC$323 million, and capital of EC$92 million, credit unions in the country continue to prove the value of the Co-operative Business Model as a sound means of deepening financial inclusion and creating economic competitiveness.
A major priority of the new board of directors would be to finalize preparations for the Co-operative League to host the 14th OECS Credit Union Summit. Over 300 representatives from the OECS will participate in this premier credit union educational and networking event, taking place from September 14 to 18, 2016, at the Buccament Bay Resort.
The 14th OECS Credit Union Summit will look to the changes that will be necessary for the ongoing collaboration, strengthening and modernization of credit unions, without sacrificing the ethos and core values which have allowed the credit union sector to remain safe, sound and a prime financial service provider for almost 70 years.
